It is never too late to start retirement planning. Though I know it is smart to start planning for your retirement as early as you possibly can, my husband and I put it off for some reason. It wasn’t until he turned 30 that we decided we had better get a move on in regards to our retirement planning. To say we are bad with money is probably an understatement, and it took me a lot of convincing to get my husband to understand what was at stake. A good friend of mine is a loan officer at a major financial institution. I’ve been thinking about taking out a loan in order to make some much-needed home improvements, so I asked him for some advice about what I can do to increase my chances for approval.

Besides the usual stuff about having a steady job or a co-signor, he told me that it’s very important for me to obtain a free credit report prior to filling out my application. This will give me a much better idea of where I stand because I’ll be seeing the exact same information that the bank will see before they make their decision. I have to admit that I’d never considered this angle before, but obviously it would be to my advantage to obtain a free credit report soon.
